A classic British dessert: dark sponge cake with hints of molasses, made with sweet dates and soaked in a rich toffee sauce. Eat it sliced hot with a dollop of whipped cream or your favorite vanilla ice cream. For a whole different experience, enjoy a slice, a few days after baking, spread with butter, and consumed whilst drinking a hot cup of tea.
