Dating back to 1939 this loaf was originally made in Scotland. It was very popular during World War Two, when sugar was scarce.
This loaf is a staple at Coffee Mornings in Britain. Coffee Mornings are social events where attendees drink coffee (well, there will be tea too), chat, and eat cakes, and they often involve donating to charity.
Date and Walnut loaf is packed full of flavor. The slight crunch from the walnuts and the sweet chewiness of the dates creates a great alternative to a traditional fruit cake. The cake is delicious with the mocha fudge topping but traditionally is served in slices, spread with butter. It is, of course, perfect with a hot cup of tea.
