This classic British dessert is traditionally made from baked custard-steeped bread and butter. Make your own delicately spiced loaf, then butter slices of the bread and layer in a baking pan, scatter with raisins and cover with a rich egg custard topped with golden sugar. Serve hot with cream or ice cream.
